You won't find these special treatments in Play Boosters, but you can trade them as singles on Cardsphere.
Headliner
This set's headliner is the gleaming gold treatment of Smaug the Magnificent. Gleaming gold Smaug is fittingly framed in the his favorite color, and ironically decorated with a representation of the projectile that sealed his demise. Of course there's no flavor text on this version to tell you about it.
While not serialized, Wizards of the Coast reports approximately 500 copies of gleaming gold Smaug exist world-wide. The card is English-language-only, but it may be found in Collector Boosters of any language.
Middle-earth Classic Artist
A carefully curated list of Middle-earth Classic Artist cards are all reprints from The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth products, including the main set, Commander preconstructed decks, and scene boxes.
40 mythic rares with The Hobbit Eternal-legal (HOC) set code get both non-foil and surge foil treatments, only in Collector Boosters. Additionally, the box topper for both Collector and Play Booster boxes includes traditional foils which are not available in any booster packs.
All of these reprints and illustrations are truly awesome, but I can't highlight all of them. Dawn of a New Age deserves special attention as the first new Magic art by Kaja Foglio since Thunderstaff from Darksteel in 2004. Kaja Foglio's technique clearly progressed in the last twenty years, while retaining the perspective of her older works.
Dwarvish Language
The runes on the five Dwarvish language cards are appropriately epic. On one hand, I have a strong preference for cards I can read as legal game pieces. On the other hand, I totally understand the allure to The Lord of the Rings enthusiasts and card collectors.
Unfortunately for players and collectors, the cards chosen for this treatment range drastically in value. Dwarven Warriors might be a great choice thematically, but it's a bulk common with printings indexed as low as twenty cents. In contrast, the cheapest version of Mox Amber is about $70.
Extended Art
My set release custom of comparing and contrasting of extended art to regular frame cards continues.
This time the regular frame is party crashing An Unexpected Party, the fateful gathering of Thorin's company in Bilbo's home. Meanwhile, the extended art version of An Unexpected Party entertains all of Bilbo's uninvited guests.
Extended art cards may be non-foil or traditional foil. In addition to Collector Boosters available this year, traditional foil extended art cards from The Hobbit will come with The Battle of Five Armies product expected to release in 2027
More Booster Fun
The following treatments appear in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters in one form or another. Of course, we all know the best way to get them is directly from other users on Cardsphere.
Book Cover
Considering Tolkien inspired generations of paperback fantasy writers and readers, this treatment simultaneously attests to Middle-earth as an economic and artistic force. And they look really cool.
The borderless book cover is made to appear faded and tattered, like a well-loved book, but you'll be able to get your hands on a pack fresh print for your deck or binder.
Either Play Boosters or Collector Boosters may contain non-foil or traditional foil book cover cards. However, the surge foils are only distributed through Collector Boosters.
Dragon Hoard Frame
At first glance I loved this showcase frame, it has something in common Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies.
It's called the Dragon Hoard Frame, but there's no hoard of treasure anywhere. The "huge coiled tail" along the side matches the novel's description of Smaug's until you get to the tip of it. The card name appears to be engulfed in flame from the end of the tail, yet Smaug describes his own tail as striking like a thunderbolt. On the whole, this frame is personally a flavor miss for me.
You might crack this showcase treatment in non-foil or traditional foil from any booster product. Just like the Book Cover surge foils, only Collector Boosters contain surge foil Dragon Hoard frames.
Borderless Scenes
The main set includes two collectable scenes of pivotal events from the story.
Face doom in the darkness, and see the goblins recoil from the deadly gleam of Glamdring, Foe-hammer. Fight with the Great Goblin by Ted Nasmith spreads edge-to-edge on six cards.
Muster with your company and join the fray as The Five Armies Clash! in a 9-card illustration by Denman Rooke.
Non-foil and traditional foil cards from both of these scenes may be opened from either Play Boosters or Collector Boosters.
Journey Basics
The road goes winding ever on past the peaks, through the depths, and over the flows of Middle-earth far from the pastoral Shire.
These full-art basics capture breathtaking landscapes and memorable plot points as Bilbo and company press forward to their goal. Every Collector Booster includes a traditional foil Journey basic land. Play Boosters may contain full-art basics in either non-foil or traditional foil.

These cards from other sealed products are not available in booster packs.
Bundle Promo
Only the Bundle and Gift Bundle products that ship with the Booster Promo version of The Misty Mountains Cold.
This alternate art card is always traditional foil; an appropriately shiny treatment for an image focused on Thorin holding The Arkenstone.
Seasonal Basics
Three different products deliver three different treatments of the Seasonal basic plains.
Every Prerelease Kit will have one of each season in non-foil. The traditional foils come from regular Bundles.
Every Gift Bundle includes a surge foil of each Seasonal Basic.
Scene Boxes
Experience Bilbo's call to adventure and from the comforts of Bag End in the Crack the Plates scene box.
Bilbo's transformation from content homebody, to bold adventurer is clearly on display as we shift to the second scene box: Treasures of Smaug.
By the time Bilbo faces Smaug, he's no longer the timid fellow Gandalf manipulated to venture beyond his pastoral comfort zone.
In the ruined halls of Erebor, among Smaug's ill-gotten riches, Bilbo and Smaug have a battle of wits that changes both their fortunes.
Both Scene Boxes contain traditional foil versions of the six cards that make up each of these storied scenes.
