Friendly greetings and welcome to the Storm Plains of Tarkir! The Cardsphere team is pleased to announce Tarkir: Dragonstorm (TDM) and Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander (TDC) products are available to trade. I'm John Sherwood, and I'll be your guide through the perils of Tarkir's clan politics and apex predators.

Take to the Skies

As a Dragon-themed set, 42 of 148 creature cards in Tarkir: Dragonstorm have flying. We're going to soar through the modern-frame cards of the main set. There's 286 of them, with only 24 reprints, and 21 of those reprints are lands. The three reprinted nonland cards are Twin Bolt

, Snakeskin Veil
and chase mythic rare Craterhoof Behemoth
.

The 262 new cards in the main set include some great indicators for trade value, including popular typal support, a new "you win the game" card, and a new Mox.

Scales and Tails

The full art basic lands and showcase frame for Tarkir: Dragonstorm double down on the set's reptilian aesthetic. Dragon's Eye basic lands are staring back at you, which means they're giving your opponents the side eye when you tap them. Meanwhile the draconic showcase treatment portrays 35 cards in the wings and claws of Tarkir's signature creature type.

Iconic Clans, Clan Icons

Emphasizing the distinctions between Tarkir's color wedge clans, the borderless clan showcase treatment interposes 50 cards with brushstroked clan symbols. My favorite in this batch is New Way Forward

, in which the elemental spirals complement the "eye" shape of the Jeskai mark.

Other borderless prints include six reversible Dragons and sixteen borderless alternate arts. The reversible Dragons feature adult and juvenile versions of the same Dragon on either side. The borderless alternate arts seem like a mixed bag ranging from "meh" to "take my money." I'm fond of the alternate versions of the Siege cycle portraying conflicts on a traditional war map.

Mana Burn

Returning again from the Meditation Realm, Ugin leads the lineup of ten ghostfire showcases. The ghostfire treatment, also in halo foil, can only be pulled from Collector Boosters. As someone who generally abstains from buying boosters, I'm really counting on other Cardsphere users to help me get my hands on the ghostfire version of Narset, Jeskai Waymaster

.

Special Guests

Certain to move on the secondary market, the special guests for this set are all winners. Five are borderless enemy color fetch lands, with art showing the dragonstorms' effect on Tarkir's landscape. The other five are reprints of the Ikoria ultimatums, featuring borderless art of Tarkir's new spirit dragons.

Choose Your Clan

Tarkir: Dragonstorm Commander (TDC) appropriately represents each clan with a preconstructed deck. The five Commander decks contain a combined fifty new cards. Satisfying my need for symmetry and completion, these new cards include a flavorful cycle of "Will of the ____" spells in each clan's primary color. For example, Will of the Abzan

is a solid black role player with both removal and recursion modes.

Distracted by Dogs

One thing I've noticed throughout Tarkir: Dragonstorm is increased breed diversity in Tarkir's Ainok dog people. The Ainok of original Tarkir block all look like very similar, very serious hounds. The new Ainok are a mix of hits and misses for me. I feel a strong compulsion to highlight Arbor Adherent

, because this mana dork reminds me of a certain pop culture pooch. Please join me in nicknaming this card Marmadork.

I know you can't unsee it.

Who's Your Khan?

Are you loyal to the restored clans, and eager to serve your Khan? Or are you a Taigam or Sarkhan, scheming for the return of the dragonlords? Either way, the dragonstorms are here, changing the face of Magic yet again. I am totally here for it. This set looks amazing.
