Sapling Nursery | Art by Vincent Christiaens

Well, it's officially prerelease day for Star Trek, and let me tell you, covering this set has been interesting; the community has a lot of feelings about this latest trip to a universe beyond...

Now that we have the chance to get some of these cards into our hands, let's look at a few singles that could start rising in price and playability right now. My name is Tyler 'Savesya' Bucks, and it's that time of the week again to take another journey into the Sphere of Influence.

Surge Conductor - $0.50

Recently, we've seen a lot of artifact decks popping up, especially with the influx of all these new Spacecrafts. Surge Conductor works perfectly with that card type, since they'll trigger this Robot by entering and get their counters proliferated once they're in play. This creature was only printed in a precon from Edge of Eternities, so it could start rising in price as more players add these Star Trek cards to their collections.

Sapling Nursery - $2.25

A legendary creature that may make some waves across formats is Captain Kathryn Janeway, who cares about getting lands into your hand and onto the battlefield. Sapling Nursery is a card that's currently in Standard that could work very well with the Captain since its mana cost could be reduced quickly in a mono-green landfall deck. Plus, this enchantment isn't legendary, which means you could get a few of them in play at the same time in a 60-card format.

Will of the Mardu - $4.50

Speaking of cards that help power up commanders from this new set, we have the pairing of Kira Nerys, Firebrand with Will of the Mardu. When these two are combined, you'll be able to create a huge number of tokens that'll enter tapped and attacking, while also dealing a big chunk of damage right at a creature's face. This is a card that could really use a reprint, because any deck that's looking to fill the board with bodies will want this in their 99s.

Iron Man, Bleeding Edge - $2.50

Finishing up the list today, we have another Universes Beyond legend, but this time it's from Marvel. Iron Man, Bleeding Edge creates copies of your artifact spells, except they're not legendary, which's a wild effect to add to a deck. As players go and pick up the We Are The Borg precon from their local game stores, they'll likely start looking for upgrades, which will lead them right to this mono blue Iron Man. Making a copy of The Borg Queen would generate an insane amount of value that everyone else at the table would have to deal with.

Until Next Time

So, there you have it, four cards that could begin rising in price and playability right now. This Star Trek release has definitely been interesting to say the least, and the market has had some odd shifts across formats. With all that craziness in mind, please take care of yourselves out there, because I'd like to see you here next time, for another edition of Sphere of Influence.
