Sphere of Influence: August 14th, 2026

We're finally able to get the new The Hobbit cards into our hands, which is starting to make a few singles rise in price and playability, so while we'll be looking at several cards that work well with these newcomers from Middle-earth, we'll also be taking a slight detour for one of the members of this list. Since we got a little bit of a preview from the special set known as Mystery Booster Commander, there may be an enchantment that's climbing in value right now that we need to keep an eye on.

With all that being said, join me Tyler 'Savesya' Bucks, as we enter the Sphere of Influence!

Herd Heirloom - $5

The main green/black mechanic from The Hobbit set is all about filling your board with creatures that have power four or greater. Since we just got so many cards that care about these powerful beaters, I think Herd Heirloom could start rising in price for Standard and even some Commander builds. It offers up ramp, card draw, and trample all on a single card, which makes this two-drop a great inclusion for any deck looking to apply pressure throughout a game.

Battle of Wits - $1.50

Recently, we got our first look at Myster Booster Commander, which revealed the new legend Whtz, the Bibliophile. At the time of writing this, that commander already has over 2,500 decks on EDHREC. One of the first cards you'll see on that page is none other than Battle of Wits. Since Whtz allows you to have as many cards as you'd like in your deck, this fan-favorite enchantment has begun to be incredibly sought after. If you've been looking to close out a game with this alternate win-con, now's the time!

Susur Secundi, Void Altar - $5

As I previously mentioned, we've gotten a lot of big-power matters cards recently, which is what makes Susur Secundi, Void Altar even more effective. Not only do stronger creatures help station up this Planet, but they can also be cashed in for card draw. This land also works incredibly well with the new commander Tom, Bert, and William since those decks are also looking to trade in huge creatures for card advantage.

Goblin Bombardment - $2.50

Closing out our list today, we have another card that works well with a new legend from The Hobbit, Goblin Bombardment. The Great Goblin loves when you sacrifice members of your team since you gain access to the top card of your library. So, pairing these two together helps you deal out damage while getting more card advantage without needing to spend any mana to do so. This enchantment has always been sought after, but this new combination of flavor and function makes it far too perfect for the Goblin decks players are brewing.
