Shipping Update: Canadian Union of Postal Workers Strike

Efren Abrego • November 15, 2024

Today at 12:01 Eastern, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers began a national strike, shutting down mail service.

More details on the strike can be found here, but the purpose of this article is to outline how Cardsphere will handle trades domestically within Canada and also international trades involving Canadian users.

For domestic packages mailed prior to Nov 15th, 2024
Assuming the strike delays mail longer than the holiday max wait time of four weeks, if both users are in Canada, we will allow the trade to remain in transit until the mail issue is resolved and mail is moving again.

For international packages mailed prior to Nov 15th, 2024
Assuming the strike delays mail longer than the holiday max wait time, senders shipping to Canada will be credited for any mail that has not arrived after the max wait time of six weeks from date of ship.  Given the low loss rate going into Canada, its safe to assume that most receivers will receive the packages once the strike is resolved. For Canadians shipping internationally, receivers will be credited a refund after the max holiday wait time of six weeks, which is our standard operating procedure for mail that is lost in transit.

For any packages to and from Canada mailed Nov 15th, 2024 and later
As of today, November 15th, 2024, we have placed all Canadian users into Vacation mode. If your account is affected this way, and you choose to exit vacation mode prior to mail service resuming, YOU WILL ASSUME ALL RISK FOR LOST MAIL, BOTH INCOMING AND OUTGOING. After mail resumes, even if the holidays have passed, we will continue to use holiday transit times for mail both going in and out of Canada, as there will be still be delays as Canada Post works through the backlog of mail.

Because we are a worldwide trading site, we will be notifying all users of these changes regardless of location via email. We will post another update and send out another email when normal service is resumed to Canada. This isn't the first time we have handled a strike such as this, and there has historically been few problems caused by the strike, so hopefully this time is not much different.

Note that, although these are overarching changes to our transit times, disputes are still handled by a case by case basis and site admins will still perform an account review prior to settling any dispute.

Thank you,
