16 Most Valuable Angel Cards

Angel is one of the original Magic creature types, dating back to the game’s first set, Alpha, which boasted the iconic Serra Angel. While the type has been expanded greatly over the years (now boasting over 260 unique creatures), the ideal Angel remains a potent flyer with some sort of notable ability, a la Avacyn, Angel of Hope or Archangel of Thune.

Seeing as Angel cards hold a certain cachet among old-school Magic players and collectors alike, it’s no surprise that a multitude of Angels boast hefty price points. Let’s take a look at the most valuable ones—just don’t forget your wings.

Note: Prices all come from TCGPlayer over the past calendar year, unless otherwise noted, which are subject to rapid change based on market conditions. Also, no duplicates are allowed on these lists; cards can be featured once, and that’s it.

16. Gisela, the Broken BladeAngels: They're Just Like Us but Cooler and with Wings Secret Lair Commander Deck

Market Price: $64.28

As is often the case with these lists, Secret Lair cards make frequent appearances. Extremely rare by design, as the cards are only available for limited windows on Wizards of the Coast’s Secret Lair website, this version of Gisela is from the Angels Secret Lair Commander deck.

Boasting one-off artwork from longtime Magic contributor Scott M. Fischer, it’s no surprise to see this card kick off the list with an over-$60 price point.

15. Giada, Font of Hope (Borderless Mana Foil) – Foundations

Market Price: $68.72

The Borderless Mana Foil treatment from Foundations features the five colored mana symbols on one side of the card. This treatment could be found on all the rare and mythic rare borderless cards from the set. While only available in Collector Boosters, it could be found in boosters of any language, though the Mana Foil cards are always in English.

This Mana Foil version of Giada also boasts artwork from Scott M. Fischer, meaning if you build an Angel deck around the #13 overall commander on EDHREC, and the #1 Angel commander by far, you’ll have a fairly unique and truly beautiful rendition of this two-drop legendary Angel.

14. Archangel – Japanese Media Promo

Market Price: $69.69

Featuring one-off artwork by Donato Giancola, this card was included as a media insert in a Japanese magazine around the release of Sixth Edition in 1999.

Due to the supreme scarcity of this card and the fact that its artwork has never been reprinted in any format, it’s no surprise this card is worth close to $70 on the secondary market.

13. Atraxa, Grand Unifier (Oil Slick Raised Foil) – Phyrexia: All Will Be One

Market Price: $79.61

This version of a truly game-breaking Phyrexian Angel could only be found in the All Will Be One Compleat Edition Bundle, which featured 10 Oil Slick Raised Foil lands as well as two randomized mythic rares, of which Atraxa is the second-most valuable, behind only the Junji Ito-illustrated Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines.

A four-color bomb in any format, the supremely low pull rate for this rendition of this Angel means that a high price point makes sense.

12. Battle Angels of Tyr (Bonus Card) – Dungeons & Dragons 50th Anniversary Secret Lair Superdrop

Market Price: $82.96

Cards with the Commander-focused myriad keyword are tremendously rare across the history of Magic—only 34 such cards exist in the game’s vast history.

One of the most notable myriad cards is this 4/4 flyer that was first released in Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur’s Gate in 2022. This rendition of the Angel Knight was a bonus card from 2024’s Dungeons & Dragons 50th anniversary Secret Lair Superdrop.

11. Archangel of ThuneAngels: They're Just Like Us but Cooler and with Wings Secret Lair Commander Deck

Market Price: $92.14

One of the strongest-ever payoffs for lifegain strategies also happens to be an Angel. Normally, you see cards like Ajani's Pridemate or Exemplar of Light, which get a +1/+1 counter on itself whenever life is gained.

Not so with this absurdly powerful 3/4 Angel with flying and vigilance: all your creatures get a +1/+1 counter whenever life is gained, which is an ability that can easily snowball fast.

This version of Archangel of Thune is one of only four reprints the card has ever received; it’s the most valuable by far due to being from the Angel-themed Secret Lair deck.

10. Herald of Eternal Dawn (Japan Showcase Fracture Foil) – Foundations

Market Price: $170.68

Ever wanted to play a more colored mana-intensive Platinum Angel at instant speed with better overall stats? Foundations has got you covered!

Being able to cast this at instant speed can lead to some fun shenanigans, especially in Commander, though it will, of course, be a magnet for removal. Turning Platinum Angel into a 6/6 body thanks to the inclusion of three white pips in its mana cost certainly sounds enticing, though this card is rarely seen outside of dedicated Angel Commander decks.

9. Exalted Sunborn (Japan Showcase Fracture Foil) – Edge of Eternities

Market Price: $185.05

2025’s Edge of Eternities had a number of notable Angel cards, and that makes sense, since Edge was Magic’s first explicitly sci-fi set, and nothing says “celestial beings” quite like Angels do.

This Japan Showcase Fracture Foil version of this token-doubling Angel Wizard also happens to tip the scales among the most valuable Wizards of all time as well. Combine with Elspeth, Storm Slayer or Ojer Taq, Deepest Foundation for a true token bonanza.

8. Platinum Angel (Kaladesh Inventions) – Kaladesh

Market Price: $189.26

As you’ll see later, the inclusion of this card breaks my self-imposed “only one copy of a single card per written list” rule, but… come on, can you blame me?!

For one thing, the Kaladesh Inventions frame is one of the most striking in Magic history, which this card contains. Then, combine that frame with one of the most stunning works of art in Magic history from Victor Adame Minguez. The result? A highly valuable card that simply had to be included herein, duplication rule be damned.

7. Avacyn, Angel of HopeJudge Gift Cards 2017

Market Price: $209.54

One of the best and most powerful Angel cards of all time was originally printed way back in 2012’s Avacyn Restored set. You know a card is powerful if the entire set is named after her, by the way.

Giving indestructible to all of your permanents (not just your creatures, mind you) is often a game-winning maneuver. The fact that Avacyn herself also has indestructible means your opponent better have an exile spell or exiling board wipe sitting around; otherwise, it’s fairly likely that they lose.

6. Firja, Judge of Valor (Serialized Multiverse Legends) – March of the Machine

Market Price: $219.84

The first of four serialized cards in the top 6 herein is this serialized “uncommon” from the Multiverse Legends bonus sheet in the March of the Machine set from 2023.

Originally found in 2021’s Kaldheim, this hard-to-find rendition of the card features striking and somewhat disturbing artwork courtesy of WolfSkullJack, who has only illustrated 16 Magic cards ever—adding to this card’s visual appeal and scarcity.

5. Aurelia, Exemplar of Justice (Serialized Retro Frame) – Ravnica Remastered

Market Price: $330.00

A fun Boros () build-around that would be better-statted were it released today, this version of Aurelia nonetheless retains an over-$300 price tag for its serialized version from the compilation set Ravnica Remastered, released in 2024.

4. Platinum Angel (Serialized Retro Artifacts) – The Brothers’ War

Market Price: $449.99

The other version of Platty herein is the from the Retro Artifacts bonus sheet from 2022’s The Brothers’ War, and, as always, serialized cards are worth a king’s ransom, especially if the card in question is a notable one from Magic’s past, which is surely the case for this 4/4 Angel.

Originally from Mirrodin, this card featured text heretofore unseen on a Magic card, and text that still looks like it came from a young fan’s imagined idea of a strong Magic card (to its benefit): “You can’t lose the game and your opponents can’t win the game.” Sounds good!

3. Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER (Borderless Surge Foil Character Card) – Final Fantasy

Market Price: $485.45

The hottest commodities (other than serialized Chocobos, of course) from Final Fantasy are the Borderless Surge Foil Character Cards, as evidenced by the nearly $500 price tag for this copy of Sephiroth.

Of note: the front side of Sephiroth is not an Angel. However his flip side, is, indeed, the “one-winged Angel” version of Sephiroth that struck fear into the hearts of all Final Fantasy gamers when you heard his theme music.

2. Aurelia, the Warleader (Serialized Multiverse Legends) – March of the Machine

Market Price: $557.10

The far superior Aurelia card was first printed in 2013’s Gatecrash and goes infinite in a variety of ways, though this writer’s favorite might be a clunky three-card combination that leads to infinite damage, infinite untaps, infinite ETBs, and more when you throw in Goblin Bombardment and fellow Angel Adarkar Valkyrie.

1. Serra AngelAlpha

Market Price: $692.00

The original Angel retains its crown on this list, as its first Alpha printing also tilts the scales as the most valuable Angel card of all time. With instantly recognizable artwork from Douglas Shuler of a powerful Angel holding a sword aloft (unrelated: is that a mullet?), it’s no surprise to see this card in reasonable condition fetch nearly $700 on the open market.

Still a potent finisher in the right circumstances, early Magic players simply couldn’t contend with a reasonably costed 4/4 flyer with vigilance. I mean, what was Serra Angel’s competition? Scathe Zombies? Living Wall? Either way, a deserving #1 for the most valuable Angel card of all time.

“My Angel (Cards) of the Morning”

Angels retain a celestial, majestic position in the realms of collecting and playing Magic, and we’re likely to see this creature type continue to get a lot of love as the game continues to evolve and adapt.

These elegant creatures are always enjoyable to play with and against, so it’s no surprise to see a number of them worth a hefty sum on today’s market. Now it’s time to build a Standard-legal Angels deck featuring Serra Angel…
